Duties
You arrive at the picturesque, historic Fort Langley, built on this location in 1840 as a Hudson’s Bay Company Trading Post. As a member of the maintenance team you will support the goal to enhance the visitor experience and engage Canadians and other visitors in the learning, enjoyment, and appreciation of Canada’s natural and cultural heritage.
As part of the site maintenance team, you will collaborate to ensure that operations run safely and visitors receive a high quality experience. You will report to the Asset Support Technician to go over the daily tasks at hand.
Various tasks include grounds work, flower beds, parking lot and daily picnic areas, setting up for special events, painting, cleaning, recycling and organic waste management. You are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of tools, mowers, grass trimmers, blowers, light truck, tractor and gator.
An important ongoing task is to ensure code compliance checks and inspections of all site assets are completed as scheduled. At your desk you will play an integral role in updating data to the asset management system known as Maximo. Computer work includes new projects, daily data entry and the use of Microsoft office tools. At of the end of the day, you leave assured that you are part of a team working to inspire Canadians to connect with one of Canada’s treasured places - the birthplace of BC.

EDUCATION:
Graduation from secondary school OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience using and maintaining power tools and grounds equipment.
• Experience making basic measurements, estimates and calculating quantities.
• Experience performing general maintenance and/or repair work in an outdoor environment.
• Experience in the use of Microsoft software, such as: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook.

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of Parks Canada mandate.
• Knowledge of Canada health & safety practices, such as, CLC (Canada Labour Code) or Work Safe BC.
• Knowledge of conducting basic installations and construction using semi-skilled, general building and installation methods.
• Knowledge of practices & procedures used in the conservation, preservation and restoration of heritage or culturally significant buildings, artifacts, structures and/or landforms.
ABILITIES:
• Ability to select, safely use and maintain equipment, hand and/or power tools for particular operations.
• Ability to conduct on-site inspections, maintain records and make recommendations.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to perform work according to specifications/instructions.
• Ability to perform work according to safe worksite practices.

Conditions of employment
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Security Screening: Obtain and maintain Reliability Status.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
• Willingness to travel and work in various terrain and weather conditions.
• Willingness to work in an outdoor environment for a prolonged period of time.
• Willingness to wear the appropriate Parks Canada Uniform and safety equipment, including steel-toed boots and follow safety procedures.
• Willingness to perform certain physical tasks as per job requirements (e.g. lifting up to 20 kg).
