In accordance with obligation under the Wapusk National Park, Park Establishment Agreement, preference will be given to internal and external persons who are Northern Residents as defined in the Park Establishment Agreement. A Northern resident is defined as:
a) Any person/resident within local government district of Churchill*
b) Any person/resident in any settlement along Canadian National Railway (Bay Line) from Bird northward, and
c) Any member of Fox Lake or York Factory First Nations

✔ Must have resided in Churchill for at least 6 months immediately before the closing date for this process

Provides skilled to semi-skilled and general maintenance, repair, building, and installation services for the Parks Canada Agency.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff vacant Maintenance worker positions for various weeks (example 21-52 weeks depending on the position) during the operational season in the Assets team of the Manitoba Field Unit.

This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures such as term, permanent, full/part-time, security levels or linguistic profiles in same or other parts of the country.

English essential
The positions available require candidates to speak, read and write English. If you are proficient in French, or Indigenous languages such as Michif, Dene, Cree, Inuktituq, Oji-Cree or Ojibwe, please let us know in your application.

Information on language requirements

► A high school or vocational diploma, or an acceptable combination of formal education (minimum 3 years of high school), training and experience

Degree equivalency

► Experience in preventative maintenance to electrical, plumbing, heating and mechanical systems and/or buildings
► Experience in the operation of small boats, motors, and snowmobiles
► Experience or willingness to work at heights
► Experience in the management and performance of fleet maintenance

► Establish priorities, work with frequent interruptions and to multi-task (time management)
► Operate a computer using Windows Operating system for basic tasks including email and completing forms
► Ability to communicate orally and in writing

► Demonstrating integrity and respect
► Thinking things through
► Working effectively with others
► Showing initiative and being action-oriented

The "Core Competencies" listed above will form the foundation of the assessment process - you will be screened based on the responses to the experience questions; you will be assessed during the interview phase on how you demonstrate these core competencies; and we may use the core competencies to confirm references.

Conditions of employment

► Reliability Status security clearance
► Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent)
►Selected candidates will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks; candidates and their dependents may also be required to undergo pre-placement and periodic medicals due to the isolated location of the positions

► Work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays and occasionally extended overnight stays
► Wear a Parks Canada uniform and PPE as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements
► Work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation (boat, helicopter, snow machine, fixed wing small aircraft)
► Valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) or willingness to obtain a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL)
