Duties

We are looking for a web developer to embrace a broad range of tasks from maintaining websites, to maintaining content management systems, to developing web solutions to address business requirements.

Joining our team will help expand your knowledge, strengthen your expertise and introduce you to the inner workings of our business alongside a team of seasoned, diversely-skilled technology professionals.

As an FT-03 Web Developer, you will collaborate with clients to produce web content that provides an excellent user experience. You will build, update, enhance and test content management system components, further automating our web publishing and enabling new business functions. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to project plans, develop custom integration components with technology partners and participate in the configuration of our web infrastructure.

The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) is Canada’s Financial Intelligence Unit. We assist in the detection, prevention and deterrence of money laundering and terrorist financing, two significant threats to Canada’s security and economy. Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill currently vacant positions and to establish a pool of partially qualified candidates to staff similar term and/or indeterminate positions, with various language requirements that may become available..

We are looking specifically to fill positions within the Web Development area.

EDUCATION:

A successful 2 year diploma of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology or in a field relevant to the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Recent and significant experience* as a Web Developer using PHP;

• Experience in maintaining and enhancing Internet/Intranet sites;

• Recent and significant experience* in HTML and Cascading Style Sheets;

• Experience with client side scripting languages; and

• Experience applying and validating W3C standards and TBS Web Standards.

*Recent and significant experience is defined as experience whose richness, breadth and complexity of responsibilities normally associated to the performance of these activities for approximately two years within the last five years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSETS:

• Experience with Web Content Management Systems – in particular Drupal.

• Experience configuring AMP web server infrastructure.

• Experience in digital image creation and manipulation.

• Experience in Usability, User Experience, and/ or Mobility Design techniques.

• Knowledge of Web application development technologies (e.g. HTML5, CSS 3, JQuery, ExtJS, ReactJS);

• Knowledge to software source control systems such as, Subversion, Git, and Mercurial, and related processes such as branching and merging;

• Knowledge W3C, TBS Web Standards and initiatives, and validation against these standards; and,

• Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Willingness and ability to work overtime on weekend and evenings occasionally, sometimes with short notice.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance - You must be a Canadian Citizen and eligible for a Top Secret security clearance to FINTRAC's standards.

FINTRAC’s process includes a suitability interview, a credit and financial check, fingerprinting, a background investigation covering at least the last 10 years, as well as other assessments necessary to determine a candidate’s suitability for work at FINTRAC.

Candidates must be able to produce sufficient records to any period of time spent outside of Canada and may be subject to further assessment.

As needed, candidates may be required to submit security documentation and may be subject to security investigations at any phase of the selection process.

Suitability is an on-going condition of employment at FINTRAC and must be maintained.
