▶ Providing support and expertise to all phases for construction projects: Statement of Requirement (SOR) development support, concept design support, design review, construction phase support for various types of facilities and utilities;
▶ Giving technical guidance, direction and support to custodians on all phases of infrastructure life cycle;
▶ Developing and maintaining key internal technical policy documents including standards, guidelines and technical bulletins.

Work environment

The Directorate of Architecture and Engineering Services (DAES), has an immediate need for a Senior Mechanical Engineer (ENG-04) with mechanical design experience in building services (HVAC, plumbing, automation, etc).

The DAES Mechanical Engineering group provides technical and strategic expertise to real property project development and operations teams, as well as the broader real property community across DND’s bases and wings.

As a mechanical design specialist, you will provide technical guidance and expertise to major capital project development teams in ensuring that all codes, standards, as well as internal and external policies are enforced. You will analyze multi-disciplinary project requirements, identify potential risks and develop unique solutions to complex problems. You will also apply your expertise and leadership in the development of policies, procedures, practices, technical studies and professional/technical training in order to improve the quality and efficiency of DND’s portfolio.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one (1), English essential ENG-04 position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions with various tenures, language profiles and security requirements within the Department of National Defense and other organizations within the core public administration (http://www.psc-cfp.gc.ca/plcy-pltq/rfli-lirf/index-eng.htm).

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Occupational Certification

Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.

E1. Experience in a mechanical engineering design field related to building and utility infrastructure systems.
E2. Experience in conducting engineering studies, evaluating reports, analyzing results and recommending implementation options in support of infrastructure investment initiatives.
E3. Experience in developing policies, standards or guidelines in a mechanical engineering field related to building and utility infrastructure systems.
