Duties

• Conduct repetitive tasks
• Stand, bend, stretch and work from ladders
• Lift supplies, tools and equipment such as buckets
• Dust and wash walls and windows
• Pick up litter and trash
• Travel to various outdoor sites with some exposure to weather elements
• Be exposed to noxious odors from cleaning products
• Regularly clean and provide minor maintenance to washroom buildings and other facilities
• Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic profiles in same or other parts of the country.

Education:
A high school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in the field related to the position

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX1: Experience in providing cleaning services (in facilities such as commercial or institutional environments, other facilities may be considered).

Knowledge:
K1: Knowledge of how to apply health and safety procedures at the work site.

Abilities:
A1: Ability to identify hazards and potential hazards and taking action to ensure a safe environment
A2: Ability to deal with situations and issues proactively, to identify problems and the solutions to them
A3: Ability to provide quality services

Personal Suitability:
PS1: Exercises sound judgment
PS2: Client service oriented

Operational Requirements:
- Medium physical effort to lift 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs
- Travel to various outdoor sites with some exposure to weather elements
- Work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
- Must provide own transportation to and from the workplace

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

- Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
- Willingness to use safe work practices (training and terms of use provided)
- Willingness to work irregular hours, shift work, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
- Possession of a valid class 5 Driver’s License
