Delivers technical and analytical services in applied science, monitoring, active management and emergency response related to fire management. Duties include maintaining database for fire weather and fire behaviour and maintenance of specialized equipment. Development of prescribed fire, fuel management plans and environmental assessments in support of fire management in the field unit. Fills field unit fire duty officer role on a rotating basis.

Information on language requirements
Minimum completion of two years of a post-secondary program related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, forestry) OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the position.

• Experience travelling or working in the field under various climatic conditions
• Experience participating in field research or active management projects (e.g. develop/implementing prescribed fire and/or fuel management plans)
• Experience using a variety of data/sample collection equipment and means of transportation
• Experience contributing to the preparation of technical/scientific reports and manuscripts drafts, presentations, web site information, public presentation or displays
• Experience in fire management including prescribed fires and emergency wildfire operations
• Knowledge of fire management activities including fire suppression, prescribed fire and fuel management projects
• Knowledge of and application of the Incident Command System (ICS)
• Knowledge of wildland fire behaviour concepts and prediction, particularly as they relate to fireline safety
• Ability to follow appropriate protocols for data/sample collection and compilation, and to conduct active resource management activity
• Ability to carry out data manipulation requirements as directed
• Ability to conduct analysis of spatial and non-spatial data using various media and software.
• Ability to use a variety of computer applications in the development and maintenance of databases.
• Ability to determine operational requirements, activities and mechanisms for fuel management, prescribed fires and emergency wildfire response
• Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of scientific reports and to communicate with a variety of audiences using a variety of techniques

• B.Sc. or higher related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, forestry)
• Successful completion of the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre’s (CIFFC) Advanced Wildland Fire Behaviour course.

• Experience supervising crew(s) while on alert during period of high and extreme fire danger and on the fireline
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
• Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (e.g. allterrain vehicles) and marine (motorised and non-motorized vessels) as required
Conditions of employment
MUST BE MET PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT:
• Security Screening: Obtain and maintain Reliability Status including fingerprints;
• Possession and maintenance of a valid class 5 driver's license (Class L, N or other graduated licenses will not be accepted).
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks
• Basic first Aid Certificate and CPR certificate
• Successful completion of Moderate Fitness Test as per the Parks Canada Standard Operating Procedure, “Fire Management Workplace Fitness Capacity Test.”
