As part of Parks Canada's energetic Visitor Experience team in Dawson, you will deliver visitor services at Parks Canada's counter within the Dawson visitor information center and in various locations in the Klondike National Historic Sites.
You will be the face of Parks Canada - the first to greet and welcome visitors to our community and share the enthusiasm and passion for everything Dawson has to offer. You are responsible for point of sale transactions, public safety and delivering interpretive messages; and assisting in the operation of the sales outlet.
The Yukon Field Unit is one of the most diverse field units across the country.
Geographically dispersed over 1200km across the Yukon, northern BC, and into Alaska, we offer a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors and staff. Our sites offer diverse and varied opportunities to explore Yukon’s beautiful landscape – from the glorious SS Klondike National Historic Site in Whitehorse, to the fabled Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site, to Canada’s largest ice field and extreme peaks in Kluane National Park and Reserve, extending to the colorful Klondike National Historic Sites in Dawson, to Vuntut National Park located above the Arctic Circle.

Intent of the process
Anticipatory process to staff various positions from May- September 2022.
Target Assessment dates: mid-January 2022.
This process will be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic requirements in same or other parts of the country.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
A secondary school diploma or Public Service Commission approved alternatives or acceptable combination of education, training and experience relevant to position.
• Experience in interacting with the public in a reception/orientation capacity
• Experience in anticipating/meeting public needs, resolving complaints, anticipating/detecting incidents and finding solutions
• Experience in handling cash and operating point of sales
• Experience in maintaining/restocking supplies and equipment
• Experience in the maintenance of facilities

Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)
• Knowledge of Parks Canada operations and the natural and cultural history of Klondike National Historic Sites
• Knowledge of services, programs, emergency plans, visitor services operations and fees of Klondike National Historic Sites
• Knowledge of the operation of automated cash and related computerized applications used to provide cashier services, prepare sales reports, compile statistics and registered reservations

The following additional qualifications may be applied and/or assessed because they are beneficial in carrying out the duties of the position. They may be used in screening applications, during the interview or for determining right fit for this selection process. • Experience working with or within Indigenous communities;
• Experience in merchandise display
• Knowledge of historical, cultural, geological and geographical interpretation of Dawson
This position requires the incumbent to:
• Make moderate physical effort to sit and stand for prolonged periods and/or to clean
• Be exposed to variable weather conditions
• Be exposed to noxious odors from car fumes; to dust, cleaning products and wet conditions
• Be exposed to minor injury when performing cleaning and maintenance activities
• Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others
• Work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays.
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume, as per Parks Canada requirements.
Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance
• All Parks Canada Agency employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and attest to their vaccination status unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground of discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act
• Possess and maintain a valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
• Certified basic First Aid training

On November 8th, 2021, the Parks Canada Agency announced the details of its vaccination requirement for all employees.
As per the Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for Parks Canada Agency, employees must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate, determinate (term), casual, as and when required, and student hiring (full-time, part-time and seasonal).
