Intent of the process
This inventory is for casual employment which is a temporary employment of 90 working days or less, in a calendar year.
When you submit an application for this selection process, you are not applying for any specific position, but to an inventory in anticipation of future vacancies.

Your application in this inventory will be active for 3 months. A notice that your application is about to expire will be posted to the My jobs menu of your account 14 days before the end of your active period. If you do not take action, your application will no longer be active and therefore no longer considered for this inventory. Should your application become inactive while the process is still open, a notice will be posted to your account indicating that your application has expired; you may select the link Update my Inventory Status to reaffirm your interest.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
• A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience and
• Professional culinary arts diploma or acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
• Recent* and extensive experience working as a large quantity cook in an institutional or commercial setting (* 3 years in the last 5 years).
If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
• Interprovincial Standards (Red Seal) Program certification – Cook.
• Possession of a valid recognized Safe Food Handling Program certification.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures.
• Experience working in a correctional environment (institutional or community office).
• Experience in using different software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel) in a work context.
• Experience as a team leader responsible for a team of employees.
• Experience using a foods services information management software.

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of culinary methods and techniques including large quantity meal production.
• Knowledge of workplace safety requirements, hygiene and sanitation practices.
• Knowledge of safe lifting and carrying techniques.
ABILITIES:
• Ability to perform *conversions into weight and measurements accurately (*Conversion of measurements from the Imperial system (weight, liquid, volume, area, length and degrees) and the metric system (weight, liquid, volume, area, length and degrees), and conversions between these two systems).
• Ability to interpret a recipe and suggest adjustments in terms of ingredient quantities and required portions.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
• Ability to train, supervise and motivate workers.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance
• Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
• Willingness to work shift work (evening, weekends, statutory holidays).
