Duties

Student Heritage Communicator (SU-06)
Deliver on-site programs for specific audience needs using a variety of new and
innovative approaches. Greet and orient visitors, respond to questions and provide
information about National Historic Sites, Gros Morne National Park, other sites in the
Field Unit, Parks Canada, and the surrounding areas.

Work environment

Parks Canada in Western Newfoundland and Labrador offers a number of employment options for students. Students are employed each summer in L'Anse aux Meadow's, Port au Choix and Red Bay National Historic Sites in a variety of positions.

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of Parks Canada, its programs and/or services
• Basic knowledge of services, activities and facilities specific to L'Anse aux Meadows, Port-au-Choix, and Red Bay National Historic Sites.

Abilities:
• Ability to communicate clearly and provide information to the general public, supervisors and fellow employees
• Teamwork skills
• Ability to deliver presentations using effective communication techniques.

Operational Requirements:
• Candidates must be willing to wear the Parks Canada uniform and/or costume.
• Candidates must be willing to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
• Candidates are responsible for their own transportation to/from the work location – transportation is not provided.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Required

• Successful candidate may be required to possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver’s
licence, if applicable to the position.
