Duties

Reporting to the Head of the Historical Section at Global Affairs Canada, the Historical Research Officer contributes to the Section’s research and outreach programs designed to promote greater understanding of the history of Canadian diplomacy and international relations, including such flagship research projects as the Documents on Canadian External Relations series.

Intent of the process

The current need is to staff an HR-03 position within Global Affairs Canada’s Foreign Policy Research Division - POR - Historical Section – PORH on an indeterminate basis with the following linguistic profile: Bilingual imperative BBB/BBB.

This process may be used to establish a pool of partially qualified candidates which may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures and linguistic profiles within Global Affairs Canada. Based on needs, we may use asset qualifications to assess some candidates for a given sector.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
A PhD (or a PhD completed by summer 2022) from a recognized university in history, political science, or another discipline relevant to the position

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience on subjects relevant to the study of the history of Canadian external relations or Canada's international history using a variety of archival sources

Experience in the writing of substantial reports, such as a thesis and/or publications

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Experience working on a historical documents project, such as Documents on Canadian External Relations

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Preference
