Duties
SU-01 Grounds Maintenance Student
Location: Fort George National Historic Site or Point Pelee National Park
Provides general maintenance and labour services working on trails, gardens, grounds, roads and solid waste management and related facilities maintenance; support trades staff in construction and installations; and other general maintenance and repair requirements as directed.
SU-02 Student Heritage Presenter
Location: All Sites
Responsible for learning and delivering education programs, presenting interpretive demonstrations, leading guided tours, assisting with the development and presentation of special events, acting as an ambassador for the site (both on-site and off-site) as well as other related activities. As well working on the site’s point of sale system.
SU-03 Student Visitor Facilities Attendant
Location: Point Pelee National Park
Cleans and maintains Parks Canada Agency campground and day use area buildings, facilities and grounds. This includes but is not limited to the daily cleaning of; campground washroom facilities, day use area washrooms/pit privies, campsite cleaning/maintenance, grounds cleaning and litter picking, emptying of trash and recycling receptacles. It also involves interaction with park visitors to provide basic information and direction.
SU-04 Student Visitor Services Attendant
Location: All Sites
Visitor services and revenue collection at various visitor service locations including visitor centres, entry gates, day use areas and retail locations, to enhance visitor experience. This includes providing comprehensive information to the visiting public on a wide variety of topics including but not limited to: campgrounds, trails, points of interest, safety, wilderness travel, park regulations and policies, selling a variety of passes, and properly accounting for revenue received.
SU-05 Public Outreach and Education
Location: Hamilton
Participate in festivals and events to set up a Parks Canada kiosk in order to engage the public; deliver educational conservation messages and provide visitor information on Parks Canada places. Engage with the public in ways that reflect Parks Canada’s brand and mandate. Record accounts of public interactions and file electronic reports on events attended. Also travel to assist with special events on site at Parks Canada places. Occasionally wear mascot uniform at events.
SU-06 Graphic Design Student
Location: Hamilton
Can you transform an idea into a visual story? Do you have mad skills in graphic design? Do you love to play in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator? You’ll love this opportunity to produce various promotional and informational media for digital and print platforms. Duties include (but not limited to) designing posters, handouts, brochures, banners, web ads, print ads, and a variety of other media.
SU-07 Social Media and Promotions
Location: Hamilton
Are you passionate about digital marketing, imagery, and social media? In this position you will: Develop and write social media posts for various platforms; Assist with developing and implementing social media strategies and campaigns; Assist with on-site promotions and photography at Parks Canada events and programs; And, assist in photo cataloguing, selection, and preparation for website and social media use. Your work will serve to promote programming, special events, and conservation efforts taking place in sites managed by Parks Canada.

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
Parks Canada’s Southwestern Ontario Field Unit is a geographical area that encompasses approximately 30,000 km2 of Canada's unique natural and cultural heritage. From the picturesque Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, to the most Southern point of Canada at Point Pelee National Park, the Southwestern Ontario Field Unit offers a truly distinctive work environment. On behalf of Canadians, we actively operate 4 National Historic Sites, 1 National Park and a Field Unit office in the most densely populated and diverse area of the country.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to hire students for summer 2020. The exact number of positions available is to be determined. Opportunities are 37.5 or 40 hours per week.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance
Depending on the position, possession of a valid class G1, G2 or G driver’s license;
Work shift-work, including evening, weekends, and holidays;
Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements;
Handle historic weapons and artifacts and/or live animal props;
Work outdoors in varying temperatures and inclement weather;
Work and/or travel in varied terrains and by various means of transportation;
Parks Canada prohibits smoking in the workplace;
