The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is a key player in public safety. We are responsible for the supervision and reintegration of offenders serving sentences of two years or more. On a typical day, we manage approximately 15,000 offenders placed within our 43 institutions and more than 8,500
offenders under supervision in the community.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
EDUCATION
Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in social work.
Occupational Certification
Registration as a Social Worker with a provincial registering/licensing body.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in providing Social Work services to clients in mental health settings and/or correctional settings.
Experience working independently with minimal clinical supervision.
Experience working as part of an inter-disciplinary team(s).

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of social work theory in clinical, mental health and correctional settings.
Knowledge of mental health, the impact on individuals and established best practices.
Knowledge of relevant legal regulations, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as per the provincial regulatory body for the profession of social work.
Knowledge of resources and community agencies which provide assistance to adults with mental health care needs.
Knowledge of cultural sensitive and diverse practices.
ABILITIES
Ability to conduct comprehensive social work assessments for adults with mental health care needs (i.e. bio-psycho-social-cultural assessments, mental status examinations, progress reports, discharge plans).
Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with institutional/community stakeholders to ensure an individual’s continuity of care.
Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

EXPERIENCE
Experience in the provision of Social Work services to culturally diverse populations.
Experience providing Social Work services in community mental health, medical, acute or forensic settings.
Experience providing crisis intervention services.
Experience establishing, developing and managing productive and cooperative partnerships with community-based services (i.e., community capacity building).
Experience providing Social Work services to vulnerable populations (e.g., cognitively impaired/brain-injured, geriatric, adults who are disadvantaged or in conflict with the law, indigenous people, etc).
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of mental health issues as they pertain to diverse populations such as indigenous and/or women offenders.
Knowledge of the principles and usages of cognitive-behavioural therapies.
ABILITIES
Ability to use of a variety of software including spreadsheets and databases (e.g., Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, or Excel).
Ability to deliver training.
Ability to deliver therapeutic group interventions.
To achieve a representative workforce for designated Employment Equity group members.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Preference
Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
