Duties

The Indigenous Liaison Officer position is an essential component to the Indigenous Continuum of Care. Indigenous Liaison Officers interpret and communicate Indigenous offender behaviour, treatment needs, and progress to the Case Management Team for inclusion in correctional/healing plans to promote the safe release of Indigenous offenders and to reduce the recidivism rate. They develop and deliver Indigenous interventions and establish a link with the offenders and Elders to provide them with information regarding cultural/spiritual programming, activities, and resources, fostering a positive Indigenous cultural environment.

The Indigenous Community Liaison Officer position is a critical component of the Indigenous Continuum of care. Indigenous Community Liaison Officer‘s provide the link between the community and the offender. They assist in the Case Management Team to identify community contacts needed to assist the offender prior to release and upon release. They build the relationship with the community agencies. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience applying traditional Indigenous cultural and spiritual teachings and values.
Experience working with Indigenous people, communities or organizations.
Experience using a computer, including the creation of documents and/or reports.

Experience in preparing comprehensive reports (Indigenous Liaison Officer only)

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EXPERIENCE
Experience working with Elders/Spiritual Advisors.
Experience working with Indigenous people who have had or are in conflict with the law.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
Degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution

EXPERIENCE
Experience in program facilitation.
Experience in establishing community networks or initiatives.
Experience in supporting change management processes.
Experience in data and statistical analyses.
Experience in functional supervision of staff.
Experience in project management (team leader, team member, etc.)
Experience working with RADAR / Performance Direct.
Experience with case management.
Experience preparing and delivering training or presentations.
Experience interacting with and assisting people with unique and challenging needs.
Experience working in a correctional environment.
Experience offering services or programs to women in conflict with the law.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of interviewing and counselling techniques.
Knowledge of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (CCRA) pertaining to Indigenous People.
Knowledge of Inuit populations.
Knowledge of the reintegration process and case management.

ABILITIES:
Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
Ability to speak an Indigenous language.
Ability to organize Indigenous cultural events, gatherings and ceremonies.
