Duties
As a Resource Conservation Manager, you will work as a member of the management team for the Saskatchewan South Field Unit which includes Grasslands National Park and 4 National Historic Sites; Fort Walsh, Batoche, Motherwell, and Fort Battleford National Historic Site. The management team is responsible for ensuring the protection and presentation of the ecological and commemorative integrity of these special places, to the people of Canada.
You will direct a team of resource management professionals that are responsible for a program that focuses on maintaining ecological integrity of native mixed-grass prairie ecosystems and protecting species at risk in Grasslands National Park, and provide support to the field unit for resource management issues, wildfire management, and visitor safety.
The position will require significant engagement, coordination, and communication with neighbouring landowners, grazing partners, stakeholders, Indigenous communities, government and non-government partner agencies.
You will be managing for results through effective use of financial and human resources; monitor/evaluate programs/delivery; and report on performance/accountability targets. You will lead the development of employee capacity and learning by establishing performance standards and providing feedback to staff. You may provide functional leadership to others within the field unit and implement health and safety programs.
Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and preservation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
The Saskatchewan South Field Unit is a geographically dispersed field unit comprised of Grasslands National Park, four larger operational National Historic Sites (Batoche, Fort Walsh, Fort Battleford, Motherwell Homestead), seven smaller non-staffed National Historic Sites (Fort Pelly, Fort Esperance, Fort Livingstone, Frenchman Butte, Frog Lake, Cypress Hills Massacre, Tourond’s Coulee), and an operational office located in Saskatoon. The Field Unit covers seven provincial ridings, five federal ridings, parts of Treaty 2, 4, 5 and 6 Territories, and the Homeland of the Metis.
Grasslands National Park is situated in the South of the Divide region of southwestern Saskatchewan, an area identified as a Priority Place due to its large intact tracts of native prairie Since 1981, Parks Canada has worked closely with local communities to establish Grasslands National Park and protect mixed-grass prairie in perpetuity. Grasslands National Park recognizes the importance of working with local ranchers and Indigenous communities at the landscape level to benefit species at risk and prairie integrity.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in conservation management, ecosystem management, or other discipline relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training or experience.
EXPERIENCE
Experience planning, managing and implementing a resource conservation program or significant component(s) of such a program.
Experience building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience providing leadership to a multidisciplinary team, including supervision, management and development of staff.
Experience managing financial resources.

Operational Requirements:
Possession and maintenance of a valid class 5 driver’s license.
Willingness and ability to travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations, and by various means of transportation such as vehicles, boats, helicopters, etc.
Willingness and ability to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or stat holidays.
Required to wear a Parks Canada Agency uniform and prescribed protective equipment.
Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain Reliability Status Clearance.
Obtain and maintain valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
