Duties

About the Financial Statement Review and Accounting Advice team

We are a team of passionate and dynamic accountants who enjoy serving our internal and external clients! As a member of our team, you will support the financial audit practice at the OAG and at provincial audit offices. If you enjoy working on a variety of technically challenging and interesting accounting-related projects, you would be a great fit for our team!

In this role, you will provide key services such as

-providing accounting advisory services
-providing technical reviews of draft financial statements and auditor’s reports
-contributing to standard-setting activities, including assessing and responding to documents issued for comment by standard-setting bodies, and developing and maintaining audit methodology
-developing, reviewing, and delivering training activities and materials

Intent of this process

The intent of this process is to fill an Audit Professional Project Leader position at the Ottawa office. When you apply to this selection process, you are also applying to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment. A pool of candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions of various tenures at the OAG offices across Canada.

Essential Qualifications

To be appointed, you must meet the following essential qualifications. We are interested in knowing more about you and how you meet these requirements. Please provide appropriate examples for each essential qualification.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university and a CPA designation

Degree equivalency

Experience: 

-Minimum of 2 years at the AP-FIN-02 level at the OAG (or equivalent) or at least 4 years of post-qualification experience in working in financial audit, in performing financial statement reviews, or in providing technical accounting advice in a senior position
-Recent* experience** in researching and analyzing accounting transactions under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), or International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) accounting frameworks
-Recent* experience** in presenting analyses and findings both in writing and verbally
-Recent* experience** in assigning tasks and supervising and coaching more junior staff

Asset Qualifications

-Experience** in working with IFRS, PSAS, or IPSAS accounting frameworks
-Experience** in drafting or reviewing independent auditor’s reports
-Experience** in responding to documents for comment by standard-setting bodies
-Eligible for a Public Accounting Licence (PAL)

* Recent is defined as experience gained within the past 5 years.
** Experience means that the person’s primary responsibilities include these duties and refers to the depth, breadth, and complexity of tasks that could be expected to have been obtained by carrying out these functions.
