Duties

La Mauricie and Western Quebec Field Unit is looking to fill several visitor service positions : heritage presenter, facilities and visitor services attendant! These temporary opportunities would allow you to work at one of the following Parks Canada enchanting location :

- Manoir Papineau National Historic Site (NHS) (Montebello)
- Fort Chambly National Historic Site (Chambly)
- Fort Lennox National Historic Site (St-Paul-Île-aux-noix)
- The Fur Trade at Lachine NHS (Montréal)
- Lieu historique national d’Obadjiwan–Fort-Témiscamingue (Duhamel-Ouest)
- And in La Mauricie National Park (Shawinigan)

Here are more informations about the positions :

Visitor Facilities Attendant (GS-BUS-02) : is responsible for carrying out routine maintenance and cleaning of buildings, campgrounds, beaches and walkways, etc. It also contributes to the visitor experience: responding to general inquiries; direct visitors to locations where they can receive requested information and services. This role is essential to fulfilling Parks Canada's mandate by ensuring a clean and healthy place for visitors. You will regularly be required to work in a team and outside.

Visitor Services Attendant (GS-MPS-04) : The Visitor Services Officer is responsible for greeting visitors and providing them with information and directions regarding services, programs, attractions and security measures. He/she may be called upon to collect revenues, take care of the shop and reconcile deposits.

Heritage Presenter (GT-01) : Delivers interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors of the park, historic site or marine conservation area with opportunities to discover, appreciate, learn about and enjoy the place and its natural and/or cultural resources and understand their significance to Canada.

Work environment

The Mauricie region and Western Quebec field unit is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 13 national historic sites located in the regions of Outaouais, Montréal, Montérégie, Lanaudière, Eastern Townships, Mauricie and Témiscamingue thus that of la Mauricie national park

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

While this inventory indicates a later closing date, we will be withdrawing applications for a first wave of evaluation at the end of February for employment opportunities this summer.

** FOR ALL JOBS ** :

** VISITOR FACILITIES ATTENDANT (GS-BUS-02) **
* Experience in providing professional cleaning services may be considered an asset.
- Ability to properly use materials, products and equipment, to keep them in good order, and to maintain an inventory

** VISITOR SERVICES ATTENDANT (GS-MPS-04)**
* Experience in providing customer service and knowledge of the region's tourism offering may be considered assets.
- Ability to anticipate and respond to visitor needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to carry out treasury operations (deposits, cash keeping)

** HERITAGE PRESENTER (GT-01) **
* Experience in theatre/performing arts, heritage performance or education may be considered an asset. General knowledge of the history of Quebec and Canada could also be considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate through interpretation: Listening to others and communicating in a way
articulated to inform, influence and engage.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Successful applicants will be invited to attend the reliability status process.

Operational requirements:
- For some positions, handling of historical weapons or other types of items may be requested
- Work shift work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays
- Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume.
- For some positions, wearing Parks Canada uniform in accordance with the Parks Canada Dress Policy and/or the wearing of period costume may be required;
- Work in varied terrains, weather conditions and travel by various means of transportation
- May have to pPerform physical tasks as per the job requirements (e.g. lift up to 25 kg)

For certain position :
- Hold and maintain a valid driver's license
