WHO CAN APPLY?

Duties
Provides skilled mechanical maintenance, repair and modification of heavy and light vehicles and equipment in a Parks Canada Agency field unit.

The Parks Canada team working at the National Park Reserve of the Archipelago Mingan includes 20 employees nearly 50 people in the summer. The fieldwork, exclusively on islands, requires travel which is provided by Parks Canada boat operators. Departures are from the marina of Havre-Saint-Pierre or Mingan.

EDUCATION :
College diploma in mechanics OR a professional diploma in mechanics with two years of related experience within the last five years OR five years of related experience within the last ten years.

KNOWLEDGE :
- Knowledge of the principles of repair and overhaul of heavy equipment, diesel engines, fuel systems, axle drive units, starter motors, alternators, air brake systems, hydraulic components, electronic servo systems ;
- Knowledge of safety measures and regulations common to garage operations ;
- Knowledge of equipment and machinery used in the shop or for Parks Canada operations.
HABILITIES :
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, sketches and manuals related to the trade ;
- Ability to troubleshoot, analyze defects and recommend and implement corrective measures ;
- Ability to perform minor and major mechanical, electrical and hydraulic maintenance and repairs ;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
PERSONAL SUITABILITY :
- Exercises sound judgement ;
- Pay attention to detail ;
- Takes responsibility.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Required to work shifts and/or weekends and federal and provincial statutory holidays ;
- Required to wear the Parks Canada uniform as per the Parks Canada dress policy ;
- Required to work and/or travel in a variety of terrain, weather conditions, remote locations and by various means of transportation, including the possibility of sleeping in the backcountry ;
- Travel to work location by own means.

- Hold a valid class 5 driver's licence
- May require a pre-placement medical, as per the Isolated Post Policy (personal health declaration).
