Duties

The project manager is a key member of the Nunavut Field Unit senior management team. The position will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the large asset projects within Nunavut. The main function of the position is to lead the development of large asset projects (housing, warehouses, offices, visitor reception centres) in Nunavut.
This role requires strong leadership and willingness to contribute in building and maintaining a positive, inclusive, healthy, respectful and productive workplace culture. This position also requires very strong project management skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, financial competency and technical expertise.

The position also demands exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate. You will be required to interact with other Parks Canada staff, senior managers, Inuit partners, stakeholders and external groups on a and oversee contractors, consultants, on a regular basis.

Work environment

Parks Canada Agency is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

In Nunavut, Inuit and Parks Canada cooperatively manage five national parks, one national historic site and one national marine conservation area. They are: Auyuittuq National Park, Sirmilik National Park, Qausuittuq National Park, Quttinirpaaq National Park, Ukkusiksalik National Park, the Wrecks of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror National Historic Site and Tallurutiup Imanga National Marine Conservation Area. Long before these areas received federal protection, Inuit lived, harvested and travelled these lands and waters. Many staff have connections to these places through their families and ancestors. To this day, harvesting and use by Inuit remains a protected right under the Nunavut Agreement. As a Parks Canada team member in Nunavut, you will help protect, present and share these incredible places so they remain for generations, by implementing the Nunavut Agreement and Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreements.

EDUCATION
• Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a diploma/degree with Project Management Professional designation (PMP), or have an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Significant* experience in the planning, management and delivery of an asset management program for a medium to large portfolio including contemporary and heritage assets.
• Experience in planning, managing and successfully delivering complex capital projects and programs.
• Experience effectively working with colleagues, partners and stakeholders to achieve common objectives.
• Experience in preparing service and construction tender packages and contracts including the development of technical documents such as requests for proposals and statements of work.
• *Significant * experience in the management of financial and human resources, including supervision of multi-disciplinary teams, overseeing consultants and contractors.

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in civil engineering or other engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position.

• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment

• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
• Willingness to obtain other certification(s) as required and identified by the field unit.
