Duties

- Informal Conflict Management Practitioners provide informal conflict management services, including mediating, facilitating and coaching clients and groups in complex situations, training and awareness sessions and workplace assessments and interventions.
- Services are provided to Parks Canada staff at all levels of the agency, including staff working in remote historic sites, national parks and marine conservation areas.
- Services are provided virtually and on-site, depending on the needs of the clients and the availability of the practitioner. This means you will visit some of the most beautiful sites in Canada!

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff an indeterminate position and will be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures or linguistic profiles in same or other parts of the country.

A permanent vacancy exists for this position in the west. Preference could be given to candidates in the Vancouver or Victoria area. This process could be used to staff the position on a temporary basis through the use of an Interchange from another government department.

EDUCATION

ED: Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a field related to the position (human resources management, labour relations or industrial relations, psychology, public or business administration, organizational development, education sciences, social sciences, sociology, or in any other field relevant to the work to be performed) OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience that is comparable to a degree,

AND

at least 150 hours of conflict resolution training specific to the field of informal conflict management/alternative dispute resolution from a recognized institution (the candidate will be asked to provide written proof of training).

EXPERIENCE

EX1: Significant** experience in providing workplace informal conflict management services, in at least three (3) of the following spheres: conflict analysis, consultation, conflict coaching, facilitation, mediation, and group interventions.

** Significant experience is defined as depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over at least one (1) year dealing with varied and complex files.

ASSET EDUCATION/ACCREDITATION

AED1: Professional designation or accreditation (Qualified or Chartered Mediator, professional Coach, leadership coach or facilitator).

Degree equivalency

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

AE1: Experience in delivering or developing training sessions in person or virtually;
AE2: Experience in facilitating team or group processes, discussions and interventions;
AE3: Experience in providing at least one (1) of the following: executive, leadership, or conflict coaching;
AE4: Experience leading mediations;
AE5: Experience conducting workplace assessments or scans aimed at understanding of workplace relationships, dynamics, specific issues and needs to allow for satisfactory resolution;
AE6: Training or experience in trauma-informed approaches;
AE7: Experience working with Aboriginal peoples.

KNOWLEDGE

K1: Knowledge of the guidelines, policies, resources, and official mechanisms available to deal with these various concerns in federal public sector;
K2: Knowledge of interest-based negotiation and collaborative conflict resolution theories and practices.
