Duties

This position will interest self-motivated individuals wishing to work in a dynamic team environment, seeking to make a contribution to policy development.

The employee will participate in various activities related to issues affecting the agriculture and agri-food sector.

Responsibilities may include conducting analytical and research work; monitoring and reporting on issues nationally and internationally; identifying and analyzing trends; developing strategies, recommendations and solutions to complex challenges; working collaboratively with team members from across the department and across-government, preparing papers, reports, briefing notes, and presentations.

These positions are part of the EC Development Program (ECDP) which is a Professional Development and Apprenticeship Program in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). The ECDP aims to build a better and stronger EC talent pool and to maximize the learning, development and mobility opportunities for participants. The Program helps employees in the EC 02, 03 and 04 levels develop their qualifications enabling them to move to the EC-05 level and beyond.

EDUCATION:

Graduation by October 2016 with a university degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology, or statistics.

Candidates must always have a university degree in order to be appointed to the position. The courses for the specialization do not necessarily have to be part of a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience. AAFC has established the minimum course requirement is two full courses in economics, sociology or statistics.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Policy analysis
2. Economic analysis
3. Trade policy analysis
4. Audit and evaluation functions
5. Program evaluation functions
6. Quantitative research
7. Qualitative research
8. Econometrics
9. Strategic planning
10. Environmental policy analysis
11. Rural analysis
12. Market analysis
13. Statistical analysis
14. Sociological analysis
15. Science policy analysis

AND

Experience preparing research and analysis

EDUCATION:

-Masters or Post-graduate degree from a recognized recognized post-secondary institution, obtained by October 2016

-Courses or degree in Environmental Economics
-Courses or degree in Science
-Courses or degree in Agriculture Economics
-Courses or degree in international economics or regional or sectoral development or in rural or co-operative development
-Courses or degree in international trade
-Courses or degree in Natural Resources Economics

Degree equivalency

OTHER LANGUAGES:

Ability to speak, read and/or write Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Russian or Spanish.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Willingness to be reassigned to other work managers at AAFC on an as required basis as part of your career development under the EC Development Program (ECDP).
