Duties

Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada are seeking to hire two (2) Project Engineers to join our multidisciplinary teams of professionals involved in overseeing the remediation of abandoned mines in Yukon.

One position would work almost exclusively on the Faro Mine remediation project, within the Operations Team that are involved in the site’s care and maintenance, construction management and geotechnical monitoring.

The second position would work on various other abandoned mine projects in Yukon, primarily involved in Ketza River Mine, Clinton Creek Mine, Arctic Gold and Silver and Venus Mill and Tailings. This project engineer may also from time to time assist with other projects in the Yukon Region portfolio.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to fill current vacancies and to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) in CIRNAC Northern Contaminated Sites Program only, in various locations, and with various security requirements (reliability or secret).

EDUCATION
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil engineering, environmental engineering, mining engineering, geological engineering, mechanical engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience providing engineering support such as, but not limited to, reviewing engineering or construction documents, reports, designs, drawings, or specifications.
Experience with project management principles and practices.
Experience analyzing and evaluating engineering-related issues or projects to inform technical advice and recommendations.

EDUCATION
Master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in environmental engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Current registration as a professional engineer or engineer in training, in Canada.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification obtained from a recognized organization, such as the Project Management Institute.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience in contaminated sites remediation projects.
Experience in mining projects or mine closure / reclamation projects.
Experience in construction, operations and/or engineering projects in a northern climate.
Experience working with Indigenous groups.
Experience in project cost estimation.
Experience with the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan (FCSAP) and/or Northern Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program (NAMRP).
Experience with northern geotechnical engineering design, principles and constraints.
Experience in the design, construction, inspection and/or operation of various infrastructure such as earthworks/embankments, retention structures, water diversions, covers, and dams.

A variety of assessment tools may be used in the assessment of candidates, such as: * written test, practical test, situational exercise, * oral interview, simulation, presentation, role-play, work samples, performance appraisals and/or * reference checks. 6. Online assessments may be scheduled, and applicants will be invited to participate in these assessments via email.
