Duties

***A portfolio review of your original graphic design work will be part of this process.***

As part of the Brand Management team, this senior graphic designer supervises and leads a team of communication designers who work collaboratively to design, deliver, and maintain a suite of products that support the management of Parks Canada’s brand while advancing the Agency’s mandate. The work involves conducting research, planning, and managing complex, multiple, or large-scale communication and brand identity design projects, related workflow, and client relationships. The incumbent provides brand management-related advice and support to the broad Parks Canada team and external suppliers.

EDUCATION:

EDU1: Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in communication design, design management OR an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

EXP1: Significant* experience providing strategic advice to clients and management possessing varying levels of knowledge about branding;
EXP2: Experience in developing, evaluating, and refining policies, guidelines, tools, and processes to support the management of a brand program;
EXP3: Significant* experience in the management of complex, multiple, or large-scale visual communication projects, and associated workflow and client/horizontal relationships;
EXP4: Significant* experience leading and providing creative direction to a team of communication designers while ensuring quality control of products and services related to the development of a variety of branded products;
EXP5: Recent** and significant* experience using computer software programs for the Macintosh platform, including: Macintosh system software, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office.

*Significant is defined as the degree of experience normally gained through two years or more of relevant experience.
**Recent is defined as within the last two years.

KNOWLEDGE:

K1: Knowledge of communication design trends, design theory, and practices;
K2: Knowledge of contemporary brand management, intellectual property, and brand identity theory and practices;
K3: Knowledge of federal legislation, policies, and guidelines governing visual communication and brand management (e.g.: Federal Identity Program, Official Languages Act, etc.)

A1: Ability to provide advice informed by research on issues related to visual communication and brand management;
A2: Ability to apply the principles of design thinking to the process of developing effective communication design solutions;

ASSET EXPERIENCES:

AE1: Experience designing products or templates for a multitude of channels: promotional products in print, corporate reports, vehicular wraps, symbols, wayfinding signage, interpretation panels, digital products such as e-newsletters, social media products, video elements, animations, or 3D products such as bronze castings, plaques, etc;
AE2: Experience with accessible communications design: design considering equity and inclusion, use of AI in design or in the context of Indigenous reconciliation.
