The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the PSEA. This being said, the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the King's Privy Council for Canada. Intent of the process
The Manager, Western Regional Operations – Rail Investigations reports directly to the Director of Investigations for the Rail and Pipeline Branch. The Manager is responsible for the management and direction of a team of regional investigators for the conduct of rail occurrence investigations. This includes providing expertise and strategic direction to regional investigators, the development of investigation reports, and the preparation and communication of investigation results. We are currently looking for a candidate to fill a position in one of the following regions: Richmond (BC), Edmonton (AB), Calgary (AB), Winnipeg (MB) or Richmond Hill (ON). The intent of this process is to establish a pool of partially qualified candidates. Similar positions may be staffed through this process with various tenures, language profiles and/or requirements, location, and security requirements.

Meet the Occupational Health Assessment (Periodic III).Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada.Be able and agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.Be able and agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays.Be able and agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air. Willingness to be available on standby, on a rotational basis.Willingness to undergo TSB required training.
Operational Requirements
Willingness to assume the duties of the Director of Investigations on a temporary acting basis as required.

Secondary school diploma or employer-approved combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.

Minimum of 10 years total of experience performing one or more of the following activities:
• Railway management; and/or
• Train operations (locomotive engineer and/or rail traffic controller); and/or
• Maintenance of track and/or track structures; and/or
• Maintenance of rolling stock; and/or
• Railway regulatory oversight activitiesExperience in providing analysis, advice, and recommendations to management related to rail transportation.Experience writing technical or accident investigation reports related to rail transportation.
