Work as a Treaty Annuity Payment student this summer. Gain experience within the federal government with the unique opportunity to travel to First Nations across the nation and be actively involved in the Treaty relationship between Indigenous peoples and the Crown.
Every year, Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) attends Treaty Annuity Payment Events where employees distribute payments on a national basis to persons who are registered under the Indian Act and a First Nation that signed a specific historic treaty with the Crown.
What you will gain

- travel to First Nation communities
- familiarize yourself with diverse First Nation cultures
- be actively involved in the Treaty relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the Crown
What you will do
Typical tasks may include:
- corresponding with First Nations to obtain dates and times of treaty payment events
- corresponding and liaising with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to confirm attendance
- coordinating and making travel arrangements for treaty payment staff
- travelling to First Nation communities to participate in treaty payment events
- distribution of Treaty Pay to First Nation members
- data entry and cash account reconciliation
Duration: Full-time from May 15 to August 30, 2026 (these dates are approximate and may be extended or shortened depending on need).

What we are looking for
Indigenous post-secondary students who:
- are studying in various fields but preference may be given to students in one of the following areas of study: Aboriginal/Indigenous studies, anthropology, business administration, history, human sciences, public administration, finance, accounting, office administration or social sciences
- are able to travel* frequently by land or air in all weather conditions to perform work related functions across the province, including in isolated and non-isolated communities
*Travel will be reimbursed
- are willing to travel on short notice periodically
- are willing to work compensated extended hours

Conditions of employment

You must be willing to travel, including to remote and isolated First Nation communities.
- A valid Driver’s License may be required in some work locations.

Travel:
Most student positions require various methods of travel and staying in hotels/motels/other accommodations. These arrangements include meal and incidental per diems, and all are arranged and paid by Indigenous Services Canada.
